Do you use your sketchbook as a means of recording your experiences? From the title you can see that this is true for me although it seems to be stuck in some otherworldy place. Perhaps its somewhere that I want to exist or maybe its a collection of places that come together to suprise me on the page, it's always a suprise as I work in a very intuitive way and love that about art making do you?
Anyway back to the title, this could be thought about in the very literal sense of being the actual journey through making art and the development of ideas as being in a constant state of development as an artist. I do class my sketchbooks as a journey through life as it has been a constant companion since I can remember, a place to take time to process life events, to be a safe place to linger in when feeling overwhelmed and to be a thinking space which allows total freedom to be yourself.
I have been working predominantly for quite a while in sketchbooks needing that quiet space to reflect on my art, to find new avenues to explore and this in turn has led to much bigger reflections on my future plans and ideas. Thankyou Sketchbooks !!
